all the little details...

Dearest friends and family, we are so looking forward to sharing our wedding weekend with all of you this Memorial Day. Because you are making the effort to come so far, we want this to be a relaxing and memorable time for you and your families and so, we've put together a list of details that will hopefully help with travel arrangements, etc.

a bit about location

Mentone is a small community located on a bluff in Northeast Alabama. Lillis spent summers in a cottage known to the family as Sweet Apple and we have decided to have our wedding ceremony in the front yard at Sweet Apple because the cottage and the area mean so much to both of us.

lodging

UPDATE: As of April 10th, Desoto State Park had 10 rooms and one chalet available for the wedding weekend. Look for accommodations at Desoto State Park (please be aware that the park's lodging is approximately 15 to 20 minutes from the reception location). Mentone Mountain Getaways is a good place to search for cabin rentals (888) 920-8445. If you are familiar with AirBnB, feel free to search for lodging via their website.

little ones

Friends and family, this is a kid-friendly wedding and reception! We hope you'll bring your little ones to share in our big day. Please just let us know when you RSVP that you'll be bringing them along so that we can make sure to have some special treats for all.

libations...

As this is meant to be a celebratory weekend, we feel we must make note that Mentone sits in a dry county (the horrors!) and so if you plan on celebrating prior to the reception, you will certainly want to bring your favorite spirits with you.

a digital request

We are as anxious as you to make sure this event is properly captured, which is why we ask that you let our professional photographer do the honors. Please no cell phones during the wedding. We want you to sit back and enjoy the ceremony with us. However, no holds barred during the reception! Feel free to snap candids and selfies all night long! In fact, we've created a page in the app WedPics where you can upload your photos from the wedding weekend and everyone with the app can see each other's pictures. What you'll need to do is download the WedPics app on your phone and use the Wedding ID: LILLISANDLLOYD. If you take photos with a digital camera you can upload your images to WedPics via your computer. Snap and share, folks. Snap and share!

your presence is your gift

We are so grateful to our friends and family for making the journey to Mentone and that's why we cannot say enough: your presence is your gift! We know this policy isn't for everyone, so we have registered at TARGET and HOME DEPOT. But again, your presence is your present!

the big day!

As we get closer to the big day, we will post details about parking and logistics. Stay tuned!
  • TIME ZONES: Mentone sits right on the border of GA and, depending on which cell tower you are closest to, your phone will pick up either Central Standard Time (CST) or Eastern Standard Time (EST). All times for the wedding weekend are in CST, so be careful when checking time on your digital devices!
  • SHUTTLES: We will have shuttle options for guests to move between the ceremony at Sweet Apple and the reception at Nippersink Lodge. We will post schedules as soon as starting locations are finalized.
  • PARKING: In general, please do not park within Desoto Falls State Park's gates. Those gates are closed and neighbors tell us the park isn't keen on left-behind cars.
  • SUNDAY: For those who will be sticking around Sunday afternoon, we plan to have an outing and will share suggestions of fun things to do in the area.
  • MEALS: Mentone proper has a few quaint restaurants where breakfast and lunch can be had. You might also check to see if your lodging provides breakfast.
